Summer School – Credit Recovery and Math Acceleration

ASA offers summer school opportunities for both credit recovery and math acceleration to help students stay on track or move ahead in their coursework.

This year, we are partnering with Smart Schools again for the second consecutive summer. Smart Schools is an accredited, self-paced online platform offering affordable summer options for most subjects. Enrollment is $99 per month and can be completed in June, July, or a combination of both. Registration for summer school must be completed by Friday, June 5th.

ASA works closely with Smart Schools throughout the summer and receives regular progress updates regarding student registration, course participation, pacing, grades, and completion status. This allows our administrative team to monitor student progress closely and communicate proactively with families when students are not meeting deadlines, are falling behind in coursework, or are not meeting the required grade benchmarks. Families should expect communication from both ASA and Smart Schools throughout the summer regarding student progress and course completion expectations.

All Smart Schools courses include a proctored final exam as part of the course completion process. Because of this built-in assessment system, ASA will not require separate on-campus final exams for credit recovery or math acceleration courses completed through Smart Schools. Final grades and credit recovery decisions will be based on successful course completion, including the proctored final exam administered through Smart Schools.

Types of Summer Courses Offered by Smart Schools

  • Credit Recovery: Credit recovery is available for all academic subjects except World Language. Students must earn a score of 70% or higher in the coursework, including the Smart Schools proctored final exam, to receive credit.
  • Math Acceleration: Students seeking to advance to a higher-level math course may take an approved summer course through Smart Schools if recommended by their teacher. Students must earn a score of 85% or higher in the coursework, including the Smart Schools proctored final exam, to qualify for acceleration credit.

World Language Credit Recovery

World Language credit recovery must be completed through an accredited community college or high school program. Following course completion, students must pass an in-person final exam on ASA’s campus on July 30th. A score of 70% or higher in both the coursework and the final exam is required to earn credit.

If you are able to find an in-person option, it is highly recommended, as world language mastery requires consistent immersion and practice. An in-person course will also better prepare students for the required final exam. However, we understand that finding in-person summer programs can sometimes be challenging. Students and families are responsible for arranging World Language credit recovery independently and must request that official transcripts be sent directly to alexei.lalagos@goasa.org.

Important Deadlines

Families will be notified of any prescribed summer courses during the week of May 26th. If your student is assigned summer coursework and has not already registered, registration must be completed by Friday, June 5th to ensure enough time to complete the course.

All summer coursework must be completed by July 24th.
