UPDATE: On March 3, 2021 Governor Ducey issued an Executive Order requiring all schools to open campus for in-person learning beginning 3/15 or after their Spring Break if it falls that week.

On June 24, 2020, Governor Ducey issued Executive Order 2020-41 Prioritizing Kids and Schools During COVID-19 regarding the reopening of schools for school year 2020-2021. As part of the Executive Order, all public schools may submit a Distance Learning Plan (DLP) to receive the flexibility to offer distance learning options for students without an approved Arizona Online Instruction (AOI) program for the 2020-2021 school year. Charter schools are required to submit a DLP to the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools (ASBCS) prior to implementing distance learning. Charter schools may begin operating their DLP upon submission of the plan to ASBCS.

Additionally, the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) has required all school districts and charter schools to develop a reopening and safety plan for an anticipated return to in-person learning in the 2020-2021 school year. All schools were required to incorporate health and safety recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) into their individual plans. ASA’s plans, approved by our Board of Directors, will guide the school’s operations, safety and cleaning protocols, and notification plans once it is safe to return to in-person learning.
