Advancing our VisionArizona School for the Arts (ASA) is a non-profit college preparatory/performing arts school. Since 1995, ASA has been setting the standard for academic achievement and artistic excellence as one of Arizona's first non-profit charter schools. ASA students spend morning instructional hours immersed in core academic studies and their afternoons involved in the performing arts. The school fosters a culture of excellence and respect which serves as the foundation for all curricula and campus activities. In 2008, the continuous high demand for an ASA education -- and the desire to become a pillar of the Phoenix downtown arts and educational community -- propelled the school to purchase two buildings adjacent to its current campus near the Central/McDowell intersection. As one of the top schools in the state of Arizona for the past decade, ASA will expand its footprint in three phases beginning this year, with the addition of 150 new students and 12 new classrooms in its 3rd street building just south of McDowell. The renovated building will become known as "Arizona School for the Arts Main Campus." ASA will have enrollment of 575 students in the 2009-2010 school year. During Phase Two (Fall 2010), the campus will continue to expand as current 6th graders articulate to the next grade, and four new classrooms along with all administrative offices are added to ASA Main. In 2011, the school will complete renovations on its building at 215 E. McDowell Avenue for its senior classes and continue to expand its enrollment incrementally. At maximum capacity the school will serve approximately 800 students in the 5th - 12th grades. The completion of Phase One is currently scheduled for November 2009. ASA will continue its longstanding partnerships with outstanding arts organizations- Phoenix Theatre, and the School of Ballet Arizona - which provide facilities spaces, curricula, and faculty for its drama and dance programs. Quick Facts: ASA has been labeled an "excelling" school since 2003 and was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, by the US Department of Education in 2005. One hundred percent of ASA sophomores meet or exceeded standards on all portions of the AIMS test on the first attempt and 95% of ASA graduates pursue higher education immediately following high school . Student academic achievements include: Presidential, Flinn, National Merit, and Arizona Community Foundation Scholars. ASA students have also won prestigious competitions including: Prix de Lausanne; Utah Shakespeare Competition, Phoenix Symphony Guild Grand Prize; Phoenix Young Artist, and AriZoni awards. |
